Contact Us….where?

Seems like a lot of online companies now are straying away from the conventional contact us information on thier websites. How far down do we have to dig to get a link or some information about how to contact a company. Some sites don’t even include a phone number anymore.

There is a major degradation in the amount of direct customer service support on websites. Companies will create information rich FAQs in order to try and solve ever single problem that may go wrong with their site and/or product. But thats not enough… Most simple questions can be answered by an FAQ or some sort of knowledge base but hiding your contact information like Half.com for instance fustrates the user. Half has a tricky support section that sends you in circles untill you finally click on the right link only to find that you can only send an email.

Email is not enough for some people (me for instance) but continues to be one of the main lines of support for many companies. Not to mention your usually talking to someone in another country that has a low labor rate and knows a small amount of the english language.

This is one of the large problems with huge corporations that provide a service on the web. The disconnect that happens when a company is trying to save a buck and not hire a customer service team within their company. Its skimming off the top and in my view, just plain bad business.

I’m a firm beliver in a straight forward approach and a direct line to my customers. In todays web world exposing your ideas and business practices is good business… why are blogs so popular now… its information rich and informs people.

Keep your information viewable and stay in contact with your customers and your destined to succeed.

Online rating systems….I don’t buy it…

In this day and age of online purchasing we are all looking for some type of reassurance that the product that we are buying is of good quality without even seeing the actual item. This is a large issue that has been incorporated within many sites to give the visitor/potential buyer a sense of ease or trust that they are buying a product that is worth the money they are shelfing over. But are they real? Some sites have intricate systems that assure that people can not cheat the system… I think more security is necessary.

We go onto sites like Ebay see that a seller has a good rating and say “Well they must be safe to buy from” but there are so many ways to cheat the system that these ratings loose their value. Don’t get me wrong I agree with the idea… have people rate the products they buy and give a clean concise idea of their feelings about it… But seems like some companies have a bit of a laxed system allowing anyone to make a comment about a product and rate it.

My advise is to be warry of these systems and read the reviews carefully. If they seem to much like a sales person wrote it then its probably fake… Just my 2 cents on the subject.

Designing for Purpose

Today designers are expected to be the jack of all trades. Knowing all of the most popular design programs is not enough. In an agency type atmosphere we are expected to shine with creative ideas with rapid execution of these ideas. In a corporate atmosphere designers are sometimes exploited for every skill they have. Getting pulled in all these different directions sometime hinders the art of our profession. We all do the best to meet all the standard set forth by our employers and succeed with new concepts and ideas on a day to day basis.

As web designers, we design for purpose, usability, the experiance that each page brings enhances the successfulness of our work. The ultimate goal is function and usability. Art meets technology with the consumer as our critics. Make it clickable… create with purpose and style.

Vectorloft Starts Blogging!

Its a start and a new exciting interactive forum for vectorloft. We will be populating the blog with events and new client websites. Currently we are developing a couple websites. Here is the current list of clients we are working with to enhance their presence on the web and exciting their brand image.

Aaron our vice president and head of development has been working diligently on Tribeca Chiropractics scheduler system which will control all of Dr. Lisa Kirsch’s appointments. We will post our finished product once its complete.
