Web 2.0
I’m a bit late on commenting on the subject since it was first coined in 2001 but it seems to be a predominant idea in todays web marketplace today. We define the term as a change in web technologies into a new age. Different ways of going about business on the web.
The web is becoming a media rich environment filled with video, images and more eye catching animation and user experiences. I urge my clients to embrace this time and get themselves established in the web environment…this can only assist in creating a sense of legitimacy for businesses. A quote from one of the blogs I read states.
“Would you give your credit card number to that street merchant who looks like he just rolled out of a dumpster?”
If your site is not easy to use and signifies some type of legitimate business then customers are not so willing to give out thier personal information. Encapsulating the idea of a rich user experiance is the most important thing when it comes to web design. As web 2.0 designers and creative junkys we renue and create interesting experiences so that our visitors are impressed and or amazed with. We create a visual representation of the organization of information that is a website.
Now in 2007, we step it up a couple notches. We include more in-depth animations fused with video and other multimedia elements to wow our viewers yet keep the files sizes small. Ideally that is what what makes us (at least me as a designer) happy is to see someone smile at something that we have worked long and hard at and say “Whoa! thats cool!” So get your widescreen HD monitor ready for the continuing phase of the web…soon everything in our mulitmedia obsessed culture will be fused with television and the ability to pull up video, music and lot of commercials to every aspect of your technological life…
